Bitcoin market basics
What do Bitcoin support and resistance levels mean?
They are areas where price has previously slowed or turned. Support is usually below the current price; resistance is usually above it. They describe past market behavior, not a barrier that Bitcoin must obey.
Why we show zones instead of one price
Price rarely turns at precisely the same dollar amount. A support zone groups nearby lows; a resistance zone groups nearby highs. A move into a zone can be a test, and a move through it can fail. CME Group’s technical analysis lesson also describes support and resistance as areas that may slow or reverse price, rather than exact guaranteed lines.
How this dashboard finds Bitcoin levels
Crypto Signal Research looks at completed daily BTC-USD candles from Coinbase Exchange. It finds local pivot lows and highs, groups nearby pivots, and selects a support zone below the current price and a resistance zone above it. The grouping width adapts to recent volatility. The current unfinished daily candle does not count as a confirmed pivot.
Repeated touches help describe the zone’s strength. If there is no repeated cluster on a side, the dashboard uses a recent high or low and labels that level developing. The exact method, touch count, last touch and zone boundaries are available on the methodology page and live dashboard.
What does a break of a level mean?
If the live price crosses beyond a zone, the dashboard can label a breakout or breakdown in progress. A completed daily candle closing beyond that zone changes the label to confirmed. Confirmation describes that candle’s close; it does not promise that the move will continue. Price can return into the old range, and the dashboard also labels failed moves when its candle evidence supports them.
How to read the live result
- Check the as-of time and whether the market snapshot is fresh.
- Read the zone boundaries and the structure status together. One number alone leaves out the width of the zone and whether a daily close confirmed the move.
- Open Show Evidence to see the saved source inputs, calculations and timestamp behind the outlook. If data is unavailable or stale, use that label rather than assuming a missing value is zero.
- Compare the level with ETF flows, rates and dollar observations, and derivatives risk context. These indicators can disagree.
What the levels cannot tell you
Support and resistance are historical observations, not price targets, probabilities or trading instructions. Sudden news and changing market conditions can move Bitcoin through a zone. Crypto Signal Research is educational market intelligence, not investment advice.
